Resourcery Group are working in partnership with a rapidly growing, owner-managed, Professional Services SME based in Manchester.
For several years the business has been experiencing consistent revenue and ebit growth and as such is now looking to make a critical senior appointment to lead the Finance function and support the formulation and delivery of business strategy. As such, my Manchester based Professional Services client has identified the need to recruit an experienced Financial Controller or Finance Director Designate; someone capable of taking the step to a full Finance Director and Board role within a short (12-24m) timescale. This, as you will appreciate is a rare and potentially career defining opportunity for a career-driven Financial Controller looking to take the next step up the career ladder.
Working in conjunction with the owners of the business and initially working in support of of the Board, the Finance Director Designate will take ownership and control of a small finance team. This is a small turnover SME business and as such applicants must be happy to retain a hands-on control of the accounts production. In time, the finance function will likely need to expand as 2018, 2019 and 2020 growth forecasts are extremely robust and suggest further support within the function will be required.
As Finance Director Designate or Financial Controller (the title matters little) you will have full P&L and Balance Sheet responsibility for the business. With double-digit revenue growth forecast, profitability growing accordingly and cash on the Balance Sheet, this profitable, well-regarded, Professional Services business represents a fantastic career move for those capable of working in and around Manchester. Stakeholders are diverse in terms of function, externally and seniority and accordingly applicants to the role of Finance Director Designate must be able to demonstrate how they are capable of communicating effectively with and influencing such cross-functional stakeholders on a a daily basis. Like many smaller businesses, robust structure and systems are essential. You will be expected to help deliver improvements in processes and controls and enhance decision making capabilities through the delivery of new MIS providing key strategic decision makers with the insight they need to enhance performance. You will need to develop cashflow forecasting models and KPIs, oversee tax and compliance, lead on cash management and credit control. You will also be acting Company Secretary and in time the role will expand to take ownership of Operations, HR, Admin and IT.
As you can see the Finance Director Designate will play a key role in the successful formulation and delivery of strategy but at the same time is a crucial part of the tactical, hands-on delivery side of the role. Applicants should therefore be able to demonstrate:
- CIMA, ACCA, ACA qualification
- Experience of working in a similar Professional Services SME interacting directly with business owners and external advisers
- Experience of owning the P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash flow and delivering in a hands-on manner
- Experience of working in a growth SME undergoing rapid change.
- Possess strong commercial acumen, value MIS and be capable of enhancing management information and insight.
