Assistant Accountant

Assistant Accountant | Liverpool city centre | Permanent, office based role | £35,000 + study support

We're recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team of a well-established, highly respected business based in Liverpool. Working within a small, supportive finance team, you'll play a key role in the accounting and reporting of high-value inventory while developing your month-end and management accounting experience. The role is based around stock accounting, cost of sales and financial analysis, making it ideal for someone who enjoys getting into the detail and understanding how finance supports operational performance.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with the Management Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the accounting and reporting of inventory throughout the full product lifecycle.
• Performing daily, weekly and monthly stock reconciliations.
• Investigating inventory discrepancies and ensuring accurate stock records.
• Maintaining inventory-related general ledger accounts.
• Assisting with month-end close, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Producing financial analysis around stock, margins and cost of sales.
• Supporting year-end audit requirements and statutory reporting.
• Contributing to ERP and finance system improvement projects.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls across the finance function.

We're looking for someone who is:

• Part-qualified CIMA/ACCA/AAT or QBE will be considered too
• Experienced in a manufacturing, retail or product-based environment with exposure to stock or inventory accounting.
• Confident using Excel and comfortable analysing financial data.
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
• A proactive team player who enjoys improving processes and solving problems.
• A strong communicator who can build relationships across different departments
