Finance Manager

I’m supporting a well-established Manchester-based MAT to appoint a strong Head of Finance to lead and shape their financial function.

This is a senior, influential role, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Board to ensure financial sustainability, strong governance and long-term growth. You’ll be equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves as you are operating strategically.

Candidates from a MAT or wider education background will be of particular interest, however we’re also very open to those looking to move into the sector, provided you bring a strong regulatory background and proven experience in robust financial control.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
• Providing clear, insightful financial advice to SLT and the Board
• Ensuring strong systems, controls and compliance
• Overseeing management and statutory accounts, audit and treasury
• Supporting growth, sustainability and value for money
• Leading and developing a high-performing finance team
• Acting as a trusted finance partner across the organisation

Requirements:

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Extensive experience in financial accounting, budgeting, and reporting, ideally within a charity or educational sector (Academy Trust Handbook experience is highly valued).
• Strong analytical and IT skills, particularly in accounting software and advanced Excel.
• A hands-on, proactive, and resilient leader who can combine strategic thinking with operational execution.
