Job Description
The Interim Management Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial management information to support business decision-making within a dynamic commercial environment. This role focuses on providing detailed management accounts, financial analysis, and commercial insight to facilitate effective finance business partnering across the organisation.
The successful candidate works closely with operational teams to understand business drivers and contribute to the development of financial plans, budgets, and forecasts. The role involves analysing variances, identifying trends, and recommending actions to improve profitability and financial performance. This position requires a proactive approach to resolving financial issues and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and corporate policies.
Job Duties
- Prepare and present monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Analyse financial performance, including variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process, liaising with commercial teams to gather relevant data.
- Collaborate with sales teams to understand revenue drivers and contribute to sales performance analysis.
- Provide commercial insight and financial advice to non-finance stakeholders to aid decision-making.
- Monitor key performance indicators and financial metrics to identify risks and opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for senior management and external stakeholders as required.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the finance function.
Required Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant - Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA).
Experience
- Proven experience in management accounting within a commercial environment.
- Hands on experience of working with Excel
- Demonstrable experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Previous involvement in finance business partnering to support operational teams.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of management accounting
- Excellent commercial acumen and the ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly.
- Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to new business environments and systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, capable of presenting financial data to diverse audiences.
Working Conditions
- This role is office-based 5 days per week
- Full-time hours are expected: Monday to Friday.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to meet reporting deadlines.
