Financial Controller | Chester | £65,000 - £75,000
An opportunity has arisen to join a well established and high performing manufacturing business based in Wrexham, in a newly created role working. Reporting into an experienced Finance Director, you will take ownership of an existing, small but well performing finance team ensuring that deadlines and reporting standards are met without compromise.
Ideally suited to an ACA Qualified Accountant with an audit background, potentially looking for their 2nd or 3rd move within industry with a clear pathway of progression ahead of them.
- Lead and develop the finance function, providing strong leadership, mentoring, and succession planning within the team
- Own the month-end close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful management accounts
- Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales to drive cost control, margin improvement, and operational efficiency
- Oversee product costing, standard costing, and variance analysis to support informed commercial decision-making
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes aligned to strategic objectives
- Provide clear, actionable financial analysis to support capital investment, pricing decisions, and make-or-buy assessments
- Strengthen financial controls, processes, and systems to support a scalable and well-governed manufacturing operation
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements, audits, and relevant accounting standards
- Lead cash flow management, working capital optimisation, and inventory control initiatives
- Support continuous improvement projects across the business, including lean manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives
- Act as a key advisor to the senior leadership team, translating financial data into commercial insight
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, and advisors
- Lead ERP and finance systems enhancements, driving automation and improved reporting capability
- Contribute to strategic initiatives such as acquisitions, site expansion, or new product introductions
- Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and data-driven decision making across the business
Candidate profile;
- Qualified – ACA/ACCA with 3-5 years+ industry experience
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Staff management experience preferred
- Excellent attention to detail
- Advanced excel
- Working knowledge of IFRS reporting standards
